Brazil scraps bid to mine Amazon natural reserve

On 26 September 2017 Agence France Presse reported: The Brazilian government backed off a controversial proposal to authorize private companies to mine a sprawling Amazon reserve Monday after blistering domestic and international criticism. The Renca reserve is home to the indigenous Aparai, Wayana, and Wajapi tribes and vast swaths of untouched forest, covering more than 17,800 square miles.
